Turbulence Model Benchmarking Working Group

The Turbulence Model Benchmarking Working Group is a working group of the Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The members of the group have interests in turbulence model development, implementation, application, and validation/verification. Members of the working group come from both the AIAA Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee and the outside research community. Through a series of meetings and telecons, the group has determined that a repository for turbulence model documentation - including verification and validation cases - would be useful to the CFD community. This resource is envisioned to help the aerospace CFD community achieve consistency and repeatability in turbulence model implementation and usage.

Points of contact regarding this working group are: Brian Smith of Lockheed-Martin and Chris Rumsey of NASA Langley.

The initial activities of the TMBWG were summarized in presentations and a panel discussion at the AIAA CFD Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in June 2009. These activities included a questionnaire distributed to the members of the TMBWG and an industry survey. The results of these activities can be accessed in the following presentations. The first is an overview of the working group, the second gives results from the broad survey, and the third discusses the current website effort, including future plans. They are all PowerPoint (ppt) files.
